<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for determining an open/closed eye for determining an open/closed eye with high accuracy without being affected by any photographic condition or the distance to the face, and to provide a device for estimating degree of eye opening. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The device for determining an open/closed eye includes: an image pickup part 11 for imaging a region including the eye of a subject; an open eye width measurement part 12 for detecting the upper and lower eyelids of the subject from an image captured by the image pickup part 11, and for measuring open eye width between the edges of the upper and lower eyelids; a filter part 13 for filtering the open eye width measured by the open eye width measurement part 12; and an open/closed eye determination part 14 for, when a value calculated by subtracting the open eye width measured by the open eye width measurement means from the open eye width obtained by the filter part 13 is more than a threshold, determining that the eye of the subject is closed, and for, when the difference is equal to or less than the threshold, determining that the eye of the subject is open.
