<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner in which a stable and accurate optical scanning is possible. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The optical scanner includes: a light source unit 14; a predeflection optical system; a polygon mirror 13; a scanning optical system; and an optical detection sensor 18 which receives a portion of a luminous flux deflected by the polygon mirror 13 and passing through the scanning optical system before writing-in via a detection mirror 19 and a condenser lens 21 for using the luminous flux as a luminous flux for detection, and outputs a signal containing information about the shift from a reference position in a subscanning direction. In this case, even when a housing for housing the optical scanner is deformed due to variation of ambient temperature or the like, the luminous flux for detection is prevented from shifting from the light-receiving surface of the optical detection sensor 18 and the optical sensor 18 can receive the luminous flux for detection, thereby detecting a beam spot position on the surface of a photoreceptor drum.
