<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit keeping a dimension of an external shape in a plan constant even when displacement in a lateral direction occurs between an upper frame and a lower frame in an engagement portion at the time of assembly and transportation. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight unit has: a lower frame provided with an opening portion thereabove; and an upper frame provided with a light source, a light guide plate guiding light from the light source, and a window portion transmitting light from the light guide plate, wherein the lower frame and the upper frame are fixed by engaging protrusion portions integrated to a side of one of them and rib portions provided with hole portions capable of engaging the protrusion portions. A lower part of a side surface of the upper frame and an upper part of a side surface of the lower part contact with each other, and, since a width of the hole portion is larger than that of the protrusion portion, when contacting a side end portion of one side of the protrusion portion to a side end portion of one side of the hole portion, in a side surface of the upper frame, the side end portion of one side is located on an approximately same plane as the side end portion of one side of the lower frame, and the side end portion of the other side is located outside of the other end portion of the lower frame. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
