摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an engine, certainly prohibiting detection of abnormality due to freezing of an EGR valve in a frozen area. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This control device for the engine is configured to avoid detection of abnormality due to malfunction of the EGR valve when the EGR valve 23 arranged in an EGR pipe 22 communicating with an outside air introducing port 10 is in the frozen area where the EGR valve freezes and malfunctions. The control device for the engine includes: a frozen water temperature calculation means 31 for calculating frozen water temperature THW in the EGR valve by using such a gas temperature map that lower one of minimum intake-air temperature THA1 after engine starting detected by an intake-air temperature sensor 13 and the present intake-air temperature THA2 is used as an argument; and a frozen area setting means 32 for setting the frozen area of the EGR valve based on the frozen water temperature THW in the EGR valve calculated by the frozen water calculation means and the minimum intake-air temperature THA1 after the engine starting.
