<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a density-reducing agent for paper which produces low-density paper having excellent low density, slight reduction in sizing degree, and slight reduction in strength: and to provide a method for producing low-density paper. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The density-reducing agent for paper includes an amino compound triester represented by general formula [1] (wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, and R<SP>3</SP>are each independently 7-35C alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkenyl, or hydroxyalkenyl; A<SP>1</SP>O, A<SP>2</SP>O, and A<SP>3</SP>O are each independently 2-4C oxyalkylene; k, m, and n are each a number of 1 or more and k+m+n is a number of 3-60; when a plurality of A<SP>1</SP>O, A<SP>2</SP>O, and A<SP>3</SP>O exist respectively, A<SP>1</SP>O, A<SB>2</SB>O, and A<SP>3</SP>O each may be the same or different) or its salt.
