The device has a belt roll in which a belt strap is rolled. The strap is inserted with a belt lock part into a belt lock that is arranged at a fastening point in a pulling out direction in an extended condition. The lock is provided with a belt release button (11.5) for releasing the part that is engaged into the lock. A sensor system (8) i.e. seat position detection sensor (10), detects seat-related data (Ds) and/or passenger-related data (Di1) based on which extending length (12) of an automatic belt feeder (7) is variably adjusted during extending the strap in an offering position (III). An independent claim is also included for a method for adjusting extending length of a belt strap of a safety belt i.e. three-point automatic belt, in a vehicle.
