The device has a transmitter (1) i.e. LED, arranged in a spatial region (R1) for emitting electromagnetic radiation (L). A deflector element (4) is arranged in another spatial region (R2) and deflects the electromagnetic radiation emitted from the transmitter during measurement of a position such that deflected radiation (L2) impinges on a receiver (5). A collimating device (2) for collimating the electromagnetic radiation emitted from the transmitter is attached to the transmitter, so that the radiation emitted from the transmitter is provided as a parallelized beam of rays (L1).
