PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for determining a rotational position of a cam when a cam position sensor causes failure, in a valve system of an internal combustion engine for driving a valve for opening-closing by the cam rotated or rocked by an electric motor. SOLUTION: The valve system of the internal combustion engine for rotating the electric motors in a plurality per one rotation of the cam for solving the problem, specifies a plurality of rotational positions taken by the cam from the rotational position of the electric motors, and operates the electric motors by temporarily determining one rotational position among these positions as an actual rotational position of the cam, and discriminates correctness of a temporary determining result based on the suction air volume of the internal combustion engine in that case. This valve system of the internal combustion engine also specifies the actual rotational position of the cam based on the correctness of the temporary determining result.
