<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device that can always develop a good-quality image by controlling toner supply from a toner storage container so that toner may be accumulated to be flat even if a recess is formed on residual toner in a toner containing chamber, and to provide an image forming apparatus having the same. <P>SOLUTION: In the developing device, a developer-containing chamber is replenished with developer from a developer storage container through a rectangular replenishing port, and the developer is supplied to an electrostatic latent image formed on an image carrier to form a developed image. The developing device includes: a plurality of developer replenishment parts which are disposed in series in a longitudinal direction of the replenishing port and are each independently driven to replenish the developer-containing chamber with the developer; a detection means which detects consumption of developer in each area in the developer-containing chamber corresponding to the position of each developer replenishment part; a decision means which decides whether or not the detected consumption of the developer in each area is equal to or above specified consumption set in advance; and a control means which drives and controls the developer replenishment part corresponding to the area decided as the area in which consumption of the developer is equal to or above the specified consumption. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
