PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failure diagnosis method and device for a rotating body of an industrial vehicle, such as a gear and a shaft for transmitting power equipped in the industrial vehicle such as a forklift truck, and finding the lifetime and the residual lifetime of the rotating body in accordance with the operating conditions of the vehicle. SOLUTION: Based on detected stress amplitudesσ<SB>i</SB>(i=1, 2, ..., m) and an S-N diagram (24) representing the relationship between stress amplitude and load frequency of lifetime limits, load frequencies N<SB>i</SB>(i=1, 2, ..., m) of the lifetime limits corresponding to the individual stress amplitudesσ<SB>i</SB>are set, and based on these load frequencies N<SB>i</SB>of the lifetime limits and the load frequencies n<SB>i</SB>(i=1, 2, ..., m) of the detected individual stress amplitudesσ<SB>i</SB>, the lifetime L<SB>H</SB>of the rotating body is calculated. Based on the lifetime L<SB>H</SB>of the rotating body and an operating time t<SB>N</SB>of the vehicle, the residual lifetime L<SB>R</SB>of the rotating body is also calculated.
