PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield cover for microscope illumination light configured so that the illumination light such as laser light possibly giving an adverse effect to a human body may be safely usable for a microscope without damaging the operability of the microscope. SOLUTION: The shield cover 51 is arranged so as to cover a sample 53 placed on a stage 12 of the microscope. When total reflection illumination is selected in the microscope, a piece 65 is rotated by a motor 66, and ceiling plates 62 and 63 are raised to be nearly parallel to the stage 12 so that laser light with which the sample 53 is irradiated from below may not leak to the outside through the objective lens of the microscope. When the total reflection illumination is not selected, the piece 65 is rotated by the motor 66 so as to secure a cavity for making access to the sample 53, and the ceiling plates 62 and 63 are opened toward the inside of the shield cover 51.
