PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rheology modifier which exhibits rheology modifying effectiveness stably in a broad temperature range. SOLUTION: The rheology modifier includes a specific quarternary salt type compound having a quaternary cationic group and aromatic anion group and an anionic aromatic compound in a specific molar ratio of cationic group/(anionic group+anionic aromatic compound).
