FILM, METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME, POLARIZING PLATE, AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film which is capable of achieving sufficient optical compensation when used in liquid crystal displays, has a long-run film formation property and less unevenness of the thickness and surface faults, and to provide a method of manufacturing the film.

SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a film includes the process of melt-extruding a composition containing a thermoplastic resin in a band shape from the discharge outlet of a die, the process of passing the melt-extruded strip of melt vertically downward in a casing device having an evacuating means to feed to a sandwiching and pressing apparatus, and the process of sandwiching and pressing the strip of melt passing through the casing device continuously between the first and second sandwiching-and-pressing faces of the sandwiching and pressing apparatus to form the melt into a film. The casing device has an evacuating outlet opened in a direction between the normal line with respect to the strip of melt and the upward vertical line or in a direction between the normal line with respect to the strip of melt and the downward vertical line.
