PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can appropriately switch control of rotation of a photoreceptor drum synchronizing with rotation of a transfer belt. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes a synchronism switching means 612 which makes a DC brushless motor control means 604 synchronize the rotation of a DC brushless motor 4041a with rotation of the stepping motor 402a when a motor synchronism discrimination means 611 discriminates that rotational speed of the DC brushless motor 4041a is increased or decreased together with rotational speed of the stepping motor 402a, and which makes the DC brushless motor control means 604 control the rotation of the DC brushless motor 4041a on the basis of a control signal fit to the characteristics of a rotational speed curve when the motor synchronism discrimination means 611 discriminates that the rotational speed of the DC brushless motor 4041a is not increased or decreased together with the rotational speed of the stepping motor 402a.
