PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and highly-reliable liquid level detection device allowing easy miniaturization of a liquid storage container. SOLUTION: This liquid level detection device 10 for detecting a liquid level in the liquid storage container 24 is equipped with a vertical passage 14 whose material at least at a prescribed height position Hu comprises a translucent material, which is a vertical passage connected to the liquid storage container 24 so as to have the same liquid level as the liquid level in the liquid storage container 24; a liquid level sensor 16 provided on the outside of the vertical passage 14 at the prescribed height position Hu in order to detect existence of liquid in the vertical passage 14 at the prescribed height position Hu, and comprising a light projection means 32 and a light receiving means 34 capable of forming an optical axis 30 penetrating horizontally the vertical passage 14; and a liquid level determination means 20 for determining the liquid level in the liquid storage container 24 corresponding to detection by the liquid level sensor 16.
