PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a gradation correction characteristic for a density portion considered to be more important by a user, without increasing the total of test pattern images, in an image forming apparatus that subjects print data to gradation correction and forms an image based on print data subjected to the gradation correction. SOLUTION: An imaging section 10 forms a test pattern image 9 on a printing medium 1, and a detecting section 2 detects its density. Based on the detected density, a control section 3 corrects aγtable for printerγconversion for image data. A test pattern generating section 11 generates test pattern image data in which many gradations are assigned to a density portion considered to be more important by a user, determined based on the density histogram of print data.
