BACTERIUM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LACTIC ACID, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING LACTIC ACID

Disclosed is an Escherichia coli capable of producing lactic acid, in which the enzymatic activities of at least one NAD-dependent lactate dehydrogenase and at least one NAD-independent lactate oxidoreductase are increased so as to degrade one of D-lactic acid and L-lactic acid to thereby produce the other one.  Also disclosed is a method for producing lactic acid by using the Escherichia coli.
