<p>The invention relates to an internal combustion engine (10) in which the ignition is carried out by the self-ignition of a fuel/air mixture, said engine (10) including at least one injector that injects, during a combustion cycle, a total amount of fuel directly into the combustion chamber of the cylinder (C) during two separate injections, i.e. a first injection starting in the vicinity of the top dead centre of the piston, and which comprises injecting a first predetermined amount of fuel in order to form a homogenous fuel/air mixture before the self-ignition thereof in the combustion chamber, and a second injection starting at the beginning of the fuel/air mixture combustion that comprises injecting a second predetermined amount of fuel in order to slow down the combustion rate of the fuel/air mixture formed during the first injection, characterised in that the engine (10) includes a first low-pressure recirculation circuit (36) and in that the engine (10) is controlled so as to operate in a first operation mode when the efficient average pressure of the engine (10) is within a first range of high values, the fuel/air mixture then containing fresh air and first recirculated exhaust gases form the first low-pressure gas-recirculation circuit (36).</p> |
