PURPOSE: A drive support apparatus for a vehicle is provided to reduce environmental contamination and improve fuel efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A drive support apparatus for a vehicle comprises a battery(140), an auxiliary engine(110), a trigger, and a control unit(190). The auxiliary engine is installed in a power transmission shaft of a vehicle. The auxiliary engine generates power by brake power and is driven by one between a motor and the power. The trigger creates input signals to drive the auxiliary engine through either the motor or the power. The control unit controls the auxiliary engine to be driven by either the motor or the power according to the input signals.
