PURPOSE: A composition for preventing and treating hyperlipidemia and atherosclerotic vascular diseases is provided to reduce lipid content in blood and suppress the formation of atheroma. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating hyperlipidemia and atherosclerotic vascular diseases contains dried powder and extract of Polymnia sonchifoia. The dried powder and extract of Polymnia sonchifoia is obtained from leaves, stems, and tuber of the Polymnia sonchifoia. The dried powder of Polymnia sonchifoia is produced through natural dry, freeze dry, and hot air dry. The extract of Polymnia sonchifoia is crude extract, soluble extract of polar solvent or soluble extract of non-polar solvent.
