<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method for enhancing the recognition precision of a capture image in the inspection of the foreign matter in a groove. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing method includes measurement step (S201) for measuring the brightness of an image at every groove, gain calculation step (S202) for calculating a gain correcting the brightness of the image of a predetermined groove by using the average brightness of the brightnesses of the images of the grooves positioned on both sides of the predetermined groove, and gain correction step (S203) for correcting the brightness of the image of the predetermined groove at every groove by using the calculated gain. In rectilinear grooves arranged at regular intervals, the brightnesses of the images of the grooves positioned on both sides of the predetermined groove have linear relationship with respect to the brightness of the image of the predetermined groove.
