Provided is a display panel with a built-in optical sensor, which comprises an active matrix substrate (100) having a pixel region (1) containing pixels arranged in a matrix shape, and an optical sensor (11) is formed in at least a portion of the pixel region (1).  The optical sensor (11) in the pixel region (1) includes, as optical sensors having mutually different characteristics, an image fetching sensor (11a) for fetching the image of an object close to the pixel region (1) and an environmental illuminance sensor (11b) for detecting the environmental illuminance.  The output signal from the image fetching sensor (11a) is processed in a signal processing circuit (8) in accordance with the environmental illuminance detected by the environmental illuminance sensor (11b).
