<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic device, a control method for the electronic device, and a control program for the electronic device, exhibiting a bigger energy-saving effect by extending the time of a sleep mode as long as possible. <P>SOLUTION: When a user presses down an extension indication button, a control means for an image forming apparatus 10 detects the press-down of the extension indication button and carries out setting processing of a new mode setting time. In this case, the control means adds an extension time extracted from an extension time data storage section 17, to a basic setting time acquired from a basic setting time data storage section 16, to compute the new mode setting time, and records it in a mode setting time data storage section 18.
