<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cap unit capable of suppressing ink from infiltrating a sliding section thereof. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The cap unit 20 includes a cap holder 2 that can store ink and a cap base 3 that has a spring section 4 that slides the cap holder 2 in the upward and downward directions along the direction of gravity and holds the cap holder 2 through the spring section 4, and is detachable from/to an ink jet head the ink jet coater has, wherein a handguard section 2a that covers a cap clearance 11 of the cap holder 2 and the cap base 3 is formed on the cap holder 2.
