A pneumatic tire having a tread pattern appropriately formed to drastically enhance on-ice performance. The pneumatic tire has, in at least a portion of a tread section (1), a block group (GB) formed by arranging blocks (3) close to each other, the blocks (3) being defined by grooves (2) and being independent of each other. If the reference pitch length of the blocks in the block group (GB) is P (mm), the width of the block group (GB) is W (mm), the number of the blocks (3) present in a reference zone (Z) of the block group (GB) which reference zone (Z) is defined by the reference pitch length (P) and the width (W) is a (pieces), and the negative ratio in the reference zone (Z) is N (%), the density (S) of the number of the blocks in the block group (GB) per unit area of actual contact with the ground surface given by S = a/{P × W × (1 - N/100)} is set within the range of not less than 0.003 pieces/mm2 but not more than 0.04 pieces/mm2.
|
