<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat battery in which welding work of a pedestal with a battery can may be properly carried out without heed taken on deformation, if any, of an electrode material, in a type of a flat battery excellent in vibration resistance and shock resistance thanks to an electrode material filled beforehand in the pedestal ahead of the welding between the pedestal and the battery can. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The flat battery is made up by housing power-generating elements 2 constituted of a positive electrode material 7, a negative electrode material 9, a separator 10 and nonaqueous electrolyte solution in an inside space of the battery can 1 formed of a positive electrode can 3 as well as an negative electrode can 5 of a round-plate shape and a circular gasket 6. The positive electrode material 7 is contained in the battery can 1 in a state retained in the pedestal 11. The pedestal 11 is fixed to the battery can 1 by welding.
