<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical stapler equipped with a lockout mechanism for preventing use of the stapler when a used cartridge is present within the stapler or when no cartridge is present and simultaneously has a safe guide of a blade. <P>SOLUTION: The surgical stapler includes: the cartridge which has a slot extending along the cartridge between the rows of two staples; a cutting means 3 which can move along the slot; and the lockout mechanism which prevents the movement of the cutting means 3. The lockout mechanism includes: a block member 5 which can move between a first location of preventing the movement of the cutting means 3 and a second location of permitting the movement of the cutting means; and an energizing member 6 which energizes the block member 5 toward the first location. The cartridge is provided with a release member which moves the block member 5 toward the second location when the cartridge is inserted into the surgical stapler. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
