<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile electronic device capable of obtaining satisfactory operability in a laterally open state of the mobile electronic device capable of longitudinally and laterally opening first and second casings. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In a portable terminal 10, a first connecting shaft 41, which connects the first casing 20 to a connection section 40, is disposed between an operation surface 20a of the first casing 20 and an outer surface 20b at a side opposite to the operation surface 20a, thus preventing the connection section 40 from projecting to the operation surface 20a of the first casing 20, reducing a risk of interference of user's fingers with the connection section 40 in a laterally open state, and hence improving the user's operability in a laterally open state as compared with before. Also, the portable terminal 10 can widely secure an effective area of an operation section 21 to the area of the first casing 20, thus upsizing operation buttons 21a, 21b and enlarging a disposition space, and hence increasing the degree of freedom in design are achieved.
