<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original document reading apparatus capable of adjusting the light quantity of a plurality of serially connected light-emitting diodes for each light-emitting diode without using a complicated drive circuit. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The original document reading apparatus includes a scanning means for sequentially linearly scanning original document images along a main scanning direction orthogonal to a sub-scanning direction from a reading start position to a reading finish position. The scanning means includes light source portions provided so as to oppose each other on both the ends of the main scanning direction, and a light guiding portion extending between the light source portions opposite to each other and guiding a light emitted from the light source portions in the main scanning direction. Each light source portion includes a substrate and a plurality of light-emitting diodes mounted on the substrate and serially connected.
