A simple, efficient and commercially useful method for purifying an aminoacetylpyrrolidinecarbonitrile derivative which is useful as a DPP-IV inhibitor. In the method procedure, a salt is formed from an aminoacetylpyrrolidinecarbonitrile derivative represented by formula (1) and maleic acid or the like, then the salt is isolated, and then the derivative is reproduced from the salt. (In the formula, A represents CH2, CHF or CF2; R represents an optionally substituted C1-C6 alkyl group, an optionally substituted C3-C8 cycloalkyl group, an optionally substituted arylmethyl group, an optionally substituted arylethyl group, an optionally substituted aromatic hydrocarbon ring, an optionally substituted aromatic heterocyclic ring or an optionally substituted aliphatic heterocyclic ring; and n represents 1 or 2.)
