PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent multiple feed of transfer paper from occurring again in an image forming apparatus which detects the multiple feed of the transfer paper. SOLUTION: When a user instructs printing, the image forming apparatus performs printing operation (S101). When the printing operation is performed and the transfer paper is conveyed from any tray, paper thickness of the conveyed transfer paper is detected by a paper thickness detection device to decide whether or not the multiple feed occurs (S102). When the paper thickness detection device decides that the multiple feed occurs (YES in S102), a CPU stops the printing operation, and decides whether or not there exists a tray in which transfer paper having the same size and paper kind as the transfer paper stored in the tray in which the multiple feed has occurred is stored (S103). When the CPU decides that there exists the tray in which the transfer paper having the same size and paper kind is stored (YES in S103), it switches a paper feeding origin to the above tray (S104) to perform the printing operation again (S101).
