PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the error rate and/or capacity of the entire system in a radio relay system that includes a transmitter, a relay apparatus and a receiver and transfers signals by an MIMO scheme. SOLUTION: The radio relay apparatus relays signals from a transmitter to a receiver utilizing a plurality of antennas. The radio relay apparatus includes: a channel estimation unit 26 configured to estimate a forward channel matrix H<SB>1</SB>representing radio channel characteristics between the transmitter and the apparatus and a loop channel matrix G due to the transmission and reception of the radio relay apparatus itself; a weight optimization unit 251 configured to derive a cancelling matrix C through repetitive processing utilizing a backward channel matrix H<SB>2</SB>representing radio channel characteristics between the receiver and the apparatus, the forward channel matrix H<SB>1</SB>and the loop channel matrix G; and a feedback compensation unit 23 configured to add a signal weighted by the cancelling matrix C in a feedback path to a relay signal in a main signal path to correct the relay signal.
