PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for diagnosing a filter failure in an industrial vehicle, such as a forklift truck, which are capable of determining a filter life and a residual filter life according to the situations of operation. SOLUTION: On the basis of the detected filter differential pressureΔP across a filter, an approximation expressing a change of the filter differential pressureΔP with time is established. On the basis of the approximation and the limit life filter differential pressureΔP<SB>limit</SB>, the filter life L<SB>H</SB>is calculated.
