<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent and a method for controlling Verticillium wilt in eggplants, whereby Verticillium wilt in eggplants are effectively controlled using a bacteria-based biomaterial and without using agricultural chemicals with potential risks of environmental pollution, ecosystem destruction and adverse effects on humans. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Roots of eggplant seedlings are immersed into a liquid mix culture prepared by mixing a culture of Bacillus thuringiensis strain N-029 (accession number FERM AP-21647) with a co-culture of thermophilic cellulose-degrading bacteria Clostridium thermocellum biovar SK522 (Fermentation Research Institute accession number 3459) and thermophilic proteolytic bacteria Thermus aquaticus biovar SK542 (Fermentation Research Institute accession number 3382) so as to inoculate the roots with these bacteria, and the seedlings are subsequently planted in field soil.
