1,111,141. Hatch covers. MACGKEGORCOMARAIN. 24 June, 1965 [25 June, 1964], No. 26894/65. Heading B7S. A self-locking sealing device between a hatch cover section 4 and the coaming 2 of a ship's hatch 1 comprises a flexible, resiliently deformable tube 13 attached to the faces 11 and 12 of the angle section 10 attached to the coaming ledge 3. In the deflated state of the flexible tube 13 the hatch cover is free to move on rollers 5 along the coaming ledge. In its hatch covering position, rollers 5 of the hatch cover are supported by platforms 8 flush with the runway in openings 9. Locked fluid tight closure is achieved by dropping platforms 8 and inflating flexible tube 13 through introduction of an hydraulic or pneumatic pressure fluid. In its expanded state tube 13 strongly applies itself against the adjacent surfaces of the coaming and the cover. Similar self-locking fluid tight closure is achieved between adjacent, rolling hatch covers and between cover sections hingedly interconnected and foldable.
