The invention relates to a light emitting device, in particular an illumination device, comprising: a planar arrangement of separately formed light elements (30, 31), each having a cover electrode (30c, 31c) and a base electrode (30a, 31a) on a carrier substrate (2) and an organic region (30b, 31b) that is positioned between said electrodes and makes electrical contact with the cover electrode and the base electrode, with the organic regions of neighbouring light elements being separated from one another by respective assigned intermediate regions (33); respective light outcoupling elements (4) that are located on the light exit side of the light elements and optimise the light outcoupling efficiency of an assigned light element; and an electric series circuit comprising at least some of the light elements. In said circuit, the cover electrode (31c) of a light element and the base electrode (30a) of a neighbouring light element are electrically connected by means of a connection (32) through the intermediate region between a light element (31) and the neighbouring light element (30). |
