<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inclination sensor for a laser leveler having a structure preventing deterioration of sensitivity of inclination angle detection and detecting the inclination state with the simple structure. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The inclination sensor includes: a string member 7 whose front end is supported by a support 6 integrated with a housing 2; a non-light transmitting weight 8 suspended by the string member 7; a photodetector 5 substantially integrated with the housing 2, disposed below the weight 8, and including a light receiving surface divided into a plurality of surfaces; and a light source 4 disposed at a position facing the photodetector 5 with the string member 7 in between. The inclination is detected from an output of the photodetector 5 in response to the positional change of a shadow of the weight 8 projected onto the photodetector 5.
