<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyester which suppresses the occurrence of a foreign material and the contamination of a die in molding due to a catalyst used, and which is more excellent in thermal stability and color tone of a polymer as compared with conventional products. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the polyester includes bringing a dicarboxylic acid or an ester-forming derivative thereof and a diol or an ester-forming derivative thereof into esterification or ester exchange reaction and conducting polycondensation reaction, wherein at least one of an antimony compound, a germanium compound and a titanium compound is added at a specific point of the polycondensation reaction step.
