PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize a possibility of erroneous recognition and to stably determine a proper trimming frame by highly accurately specifying a face region in order to solve the defect that, in automatic trimming of a certification photograph or the like, it is difficult to identify a face and a background and stability is lacked in trimming quality. SOLUTION: A face region is highly accurately extracted in accordance with Haar-like features and on the basis of a face rectangular region obtained therefrom, a trimming region is determined (S18) from a vertical magnification parameter (S14) and a trimming frame aspect ratio (S17).
