PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller and an air conditioner to save power consumption securing safety with regard to an operation of a user. SOLUTION: The controller 100a includes a voltage converting means 3 to convert a voltage supplied from an external power supply 1 and output it to an electric equipment 4, a switching means 2 to switch a connection state between the external power supply 1 and the voltage converting means 3, a state detecting means 7 to detect a state with the external power supply 1 and the voltage converting means 3 not connected, and a power supplying means 6 to supply power to the state detecting means 7. The power supplying means 6 supplies the power to the state detecting means 7 while the electric equipment 4 is driven, and stops the power supply to the state detecting means 7 for a prescribed period included in a period corresponding to a state with the electric equipment 4 not driven after power supply by changing a state with the external power supply 1 and the voltage converting means 3 not connected to a state with both connected.
