PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent unused classifications from being set when mail or documents are automatically classified. SOLUTION: The content information management system has a management device for managing content information and information relevant to this content information. The management device includes a distribution calculation means for calculating information about the distribution of the relevant information in the population of the content information and the distribution of the relevant information in a set extracted from the population, a distribution comparison means for comparing the distribution of relevant information in the population, calculated by the distribution calculation means, to the distribution of the relevant information in the set, and calculating their similarity, and a distribution management means for performing a processing for setting the distribution in the set as a new classification if the similarity calculated by the distribution calculation means is equal to or less than a predetermined classification threshold.
