The method involves determining a system parameter set (SP) by one or multiple network elements (P1 to P4) of the communication network. The network elements transfer the system parameter set to adjacent network elements. The network elements convert the system parameter set into a result parameter set with respective result parameters according to a given criteria. The system parameter set is received from the adjacent network elements. An independent claim is included for a network element of a communication network, particularly a peer-to-peer communication network.
