A system using nickel chromium wires to measure the distance between two vehicles on a track. A transmitter wire is divided into isolated sections and connected to a receiver wire at the end of each section. A vehicle applies a standard voltage to the transmitter wire, which crosses to the receiver wire and can be picked up by a following vehicle. The following vehicle measures the decay in voltage form the standard transmitted level and calculates the distance between the two vehicles. Diodes ensure that the signal may only be transmitted to a following vehicle. |
