PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, by which a small-particle-size toner for electrophotography can be prepared easily with good yield, regardless of the kind of resin binder, and to provide a toner for electrophotography obtained by the method. SOLUTION: The process for preparing a toner for electrophotography comprising a resin binder and a colorant includes the steps of (1) forming primary particles containing the resin binder and the colorant in an aqueous medium, in the presence of a nonionic surfactant; and (2) aggregating and unifying the primary particles. A toner for electrophotography obtainable by the process is also provided, wherein crystalline polyester is contained in an amount of ≥60 wt.% in the toner and the toner has a volume-median particle size (D<SB>50</SB>) of 1-7 μm.
