In a hand brake mechanism for disc brakes, one of the two friction pad assemblies is adapted to be applied to the brake via balls 13 disposed in an arcuately curved tube 12, 15 filled with grease such that when a pin 14 is actuated by means of a compensating lever 8, which distributes the hand brake force P, the force is transmitted via the balls to a further pin 11 which actuates the outer friction pad assembly 3, 4, the inner brake pad assembly being actuated directly via the compensating lever 8 and pin 7. The friction pad assemblies to be actuated may be those which are normally actuated by hydraulic pistons 5 in each of the halves of the brake caliper or alternatively separately disposed friction pad assemblies may be provided for actuation by the hand brake mechanism only. |
