Process for eradication of pests in an agricultural product

The process of the invention comprises the steps of a) placing the agricultural product in a container; b) filling the container with a mixture of gases comprising CO 2 , O 2 and SO 2 , by means of flushing the mixture of gases or by means of creating a vacuum inside the container; and c) exposing the agricultural product to said mixture for a time ranging between 10 hours and 20 days, so that it permits the eradication of insects at any stage of their development. This mixture comprises a concentration of CO 2 ranging from 45% to 90%; a concentration of O 2 ranging from 0.5% to 15%; and a concentration of SO 2 higher than 20 ppm, which mixture of gases is balanced preferably with N 2 . This process allows to significantly reducing treatment time to eradicate different insects in all of their development stages.
