A marine propeller hub 1 is secured on a tapered shaft 3 having at least one section radially offset from the rest of the shaft, the hub having a correspondingly shaped tapered bore so that the hub and shaft can only be assembled in one relative angular position. As shown the shaft section 22 has its axis 24 offset from the axis 6 of the shaft, the section being connected to the joining sections by tapered transition zones 25, 26, and the propeller hub being formed with lightening chambers 4a, 4b at these zones. Shaft sections may be offset on opposite sides of the axis 6 to balance the assembly, alternatively the balance of the propeller may be adjusted, e.g. by the form of the lightening chamber or chambers to compensate for the offset. The hub is driven on to the taper by a nut on a screwed part of the shaft (not shown) so as to produce a frictional grip capable of transmitting at least the full nominal maximum torque, and preferably 50% more.</p> |
