The invention describes a system and method for preventing the escape of steam when separating wood fibres from steam during a fibre separation step. The fibres are fed from the fibre separation step at a first pressure to a drying step at a second, lower pressure. The system includes a sluice feeder provided between the fibre separation step and the drying step. An outlet of the sluice feeder is enclosed by a housing for pressurization by a pressure medium in the housing to a pressure that substantially corresponds to the first pressure in the sluice feeder. The fibres fed out from the sluice feeder to the housing are removable by the pressure medium in the housing via a control valve, which regulates the pressure in the housing, to the drying step at the second pressure. The pressurization in the housing prevents steam to escape from the sluice feeder.
