A doctor for scraping the surface of a roll in a papermaking machine comprises a hollow back close to and extending along the roll, and pivoted about an axis parallel to the roll, a blade extending along and engageable with the surface of the roll, and several long resiliently yieldable members connecting the blade with the back. As shown, the back 13 can be rotated about the axis 34 by a device 38. The blade 11, in the position shown engages 'the surface of the roll 12. Resiliently yieldable rods 27 extend through openings 28 in the wall of the back, and each carries a blade-holder 29. The blade 11 has a flange 33 which is held in a notch 30 by a keeper 31. Each holder 29 has a boss 42, which can engage, under its own weight, a seat 41 on the back when it is turned in the direction of the arrow 36, to align the blade holders for insertion of the blade. If the doctor assembly is to be .oscillated, .retainers 43 keep the blade holders in a fixed position relatively to the back. The doctor may be used to remove particles 'of .paper stock from a roll, or to scrape off and collect broke.</p> |
