<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the degradation of display quality while having an electrode with a slit and a spacer. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal device (100) includes a first substrate (10), a second substrate (20), a first electrode (9a) formed on the first substrate, a second electrode (11) formed on the first substrate and has an insulating layer (12) interposed between the electrode itself and the first electrode, a liquid crystal layer (50) interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, and a spacer (40) keeping a distance between the first and second substrate constant. One of the first and second electrodes, on the liquid crystal layer side has a slit (9b), and the spacer is disposed on an area other than an area wherein the slit is formed.
